WET TIGERS CLAW THE WIN
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 2 - 1 Braintree Town Yellows
Daniel Whitley (20)
William Putt (27)
The Tigers had been licking their wounds after last weeks disappointing result and were looking to make amends today. Winter returned with driving rain and a biting wind, both penalty areas were swept of water and the game commenced. The boys got in to their stride early on and were putting on a much better display this week. It took 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Mitchell Dean played a long ball in over the top from the back, Daniel Whitley didn't hesitate and pounced on the fizzing ball and put the Tigers ahead, well taken Daniel. Tigers continued to apply pressure but the half time whistle stopped them in their tracks.
This week 10 Tigers were available for selection, Lukas Darby was in goal and had a real battle with the Yellows strikers (as well as the weather). Defenders Mitchell Dean, Tommy Unwin and Harry Blenkarn all were solid and the numerous Braintree attacks. Midfielders William Putt, Josh Jones, Connor Unwin and Jake Miall all worked well as a unit with the ball being passed around. George Bass and Daniel Whitley both had plenty of shooting chances today.
Into the second half and the boys knew there was still plenty of work to do but it only took two more minutes when William Putt got on the end of a rebound to score the Tigers 2nd. For much of the half the Tigers controlled the game but lost concentration for a moment and the Yellows were in and scored. The boys battled and defended well to ensure the win was secured. Ref Andy Franklin called time and the Tigers got a well deserved three points today.
Well done boys but we must learn to 'kill' the game off once we get into the driving seat.
Man of the Match: William Putt - worked hard everywhere, scored the winner as well as critical defending, great work William.
