TIGERS DISAPPOINT AGAINST '77
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 1 - 2 Sporting 77
Connor Unwin (50)
This was a case of After the Lord Mayor's Show. With the game kicking off later than usual after some festivities the night before, it looked like the boys had been out till the early hours and not the parents. On paper this was meant to be a bit of a home banker given respective league positions but as so often happens in football the team that played for the full 50 minutes came out worthy winners.
This week there were 11 boys available for selection Lukas Darby was in goal and put on a solid display again, Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin started at the back and had their work cut out with the marauding Sporting forward. Tommy Unwin joined them later and continued to work hard. Midfielders William Putt, Dan Woolmer and Jake Miall tried their best to work openings through the middle but were unable to open up the Sporting defence with any fluidity. George Bass joined them later out on the right and went on some attacking runs. Josh Jones started in a new position as striker in an attempt to get some shots on goal but again had short thrift from the away back line. The away team took the lead on 13 minutes after the Tigers failed to clear their lines. Half time 0-1.
The half time team talk was a sombre affair and in attempt to spice things up Danny Whitley came on up front&Harry Blenkarn came on in midfield but it was to be 1 of those days. The second goal from Sporting came on 35mins after a break away and as the left winger put in a delicious cross into the box, their forward met it first time and the ball was in the back of the net before Lukas had a chance to blink. The game was drifting away from the Tigers but after coming off for a breather, Connor returned to the action to muscle his way through the stubborn Sporting rearguard to grab a consolation, right on the stroke of full time. Not the best of performances today and with 3 games left it looked like the boys were already dreaming of sunny beaches, but there are 3 games left and we'll need to be at our best to force a way into the top half of the table.
Man of the Match: Lukas Darby, not at fault for either goal but certainly prevented more. Well Done Lukas.
Steve, Richard and Mike
