TIGERS BATTLE IN CUP SEMI
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 2 - 3 Baddow Spartak
William Putt (19, 34)
The Tigers were away for their Valentines Day Cup Semi 1st leg to top of the table Baddow Spartak. The boys had it all to play for after a narrow 1 - 0 defeat to Baddow in the league just before Christmas. The game kicked off and Baddow came strong at the Tigers who were on the back foot in the early stages of the game. Lukas Darby's goal was being tested and Lukas was doing a fine job in keeping the ball out. The Tigers defences did break half way through the first half when the ball rolled over the line following a goal mouth scramble.
The Tigers were going to have to battle hard today to get anything from this game. They still were not playing to their full capabilities but were seeing more of the ball. Tigers got their equaliser on 19 minutes after Connor Unwin ran at the defence, knocked the ball to the far past for William Putt to connect and place the ball sending it over and past the keeper. The boys were back in it.
The ref blew for half time and a focused team talk. All eleven Tigers were available for selection today. Lukas Darby took up position between the sticks, Mitchell Dean, Josh Jones and Tommy Unwin had the tricky task of protecting the Tigers goal at the back. Midfielders Daniel Woolmer, Connor Unwin, William Putt, George Bass and Jake Miall worked tirelessly. Daniel Whitley and Harry Blenkarn were the front men today.
The boys came out for the second half and were looking much more lively, tackles were being won and passes put together. George Bass was battling up and down the right flank and took the ball to the bye line whereby he knocked it across the box for William Putt to confidently claim his second on 34 minutes. The Tigers were now leading with 10 to go but it was short lived when Baddow played a superb ball into the box for the striker to smash home. A draw would have been fair but Spartak pushed on and took the winner.
The League Cup is still very much alive for the Tigers and they showed how well they can play with passion and spirit. The second leg will be played next Sunday and is set to be a great game.
Man of the Match: Josh Jones - solid, determined, never gave up throughout the whole match, well deserved.
Steve, Richard and Mike.
The score was 2-3.
