TIGERS SNATCH VICTORY FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT
Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 2 - 1 Valley Green Knights U9
Connor Unwin (50)
George Bass (50+1)
After all the excitement of reaching the Cup Final over the past two weeks it was time to focus on an even more important matter and that's the League. This was always going to be a tricky away game against the excellent Valley Green Knights. It soon became clear that the cup games have taken their toll on the boys. Valley Green were winning everything and the Tigers had lost their pace and seemed to be two yards short for every ball.
Valley Green got into the driving seat and dominated all over the park, it wasn't long before this paid off and they took a deserved lead. The Tigers were getting deeper and deeper in their own half and everyone had to pull together to ensure we stayed in the game. Tigers keeper Lukas Darby had to be on his toes today which meant parrying shots wide and doing whatever it took to keep that ball out. Mitchell Dean, Connor Unwin and Tommy Unwin had to use all their energy to trap every attack that Valley Green threw at them. Midfield weren't able to have the aerial supremacy that they have been used to and had to fight to get possession. George Bass, Daniel Woolmer, William Putt and Jake Miall had to dig deep in midfield to stop Valley Green. Daniel Whitley was the lone striker to start with and later George switched to the strikers position, but unfortunately the chances were few and far between.
Half time came and went and still the Tigers weren't able to find that extra gear however one thing was clear, their heads never dropped and they kept nibbling away trying to get on the end of anything. The game was coming to an end and it looked like the Tigers were facing defeat. There had been stoppage time after William Putt saw stars after heading a fast ball to hard, play resumed and a ball made its way through to the ever battling George Bass who got the ball through to Connor Unwin. That was enough and Connor slotted home. Phew! We had got a draw... or so we thought. Play quickly resumed, Tigers got the ball again, deep into injury time it went out for a corner, Daniel Woolmer played a perfect ball in and George Bass got it into back of the net, absolutely amazing! Soon after, the referee blew for full time. The Tigers fans roared with delight as what was the narrowest of victories, time will tell how important that win is. Compliments to Valley Green who played an excellent game and were very unlucky not to win.
Congratulations Tigers on the 2 - 1 win and never giving up in the game whilst keeping the belief going to the very end.
Man of the Match: William "powerful" Putt, kept battling with his team mates at both ends of the park and gave everything he had.
