It was an exceptionally bright start to 2009 for the Tigers. This fixture was an away game but upon arrival at Maldon Town, both goal mouths were submerged in water. So back in the cars and home to Elmwood and a 10am kick off.
The boys gave us a taster at training yesterday of what they were capable of today and it didn't take long to get in the driving seat. The excellent Maldon Town keeper had a busy game with the Tigers queuing up to blast the ball at him. Daniel Woolmer took his turn on 7 minutes and slotted home after a scramble. Two minutes later Dan doubled his tally with a solo effort with a shot fizzing over the keeper and dipped in under the bar. 2 - 0 with 9 minutes gone.
Lukas Darby was back in goal and pulled off an excellent 2nd half save to prevent Maldon scoring. The defence fortress included Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin, with Tommy Unwin coming on later in support. They worked extremely hard and made the tackles count and played a big part in keeping a clean sheet. In midfield, William Putt, Daniel Woolmer and Jake Miall. Harry Blenkarn came on in the first half to make an important contribution too. Daniel Woolmer was solid, as well as his two goals played an important role with excellent passing manoeuvres with William, Jake and Harry. George Bass and Daniel Whitley played up front today and gave the keeper a hard time. Daniel Whitley beat the keeper just before the break and tapped home on 23 minutes.
After the break the Tigers pushed on to increase their lead and has most of the possession. Despite this they just couldn't get the ball in the net, either off target, excellent saves or hit the woodwork. Connor Unwin made it 4 - 0 on 34 minutes after blasting the ball at short range. Shots continued to rain down on Maldon, lots of Tigers excellent corners, and Jake Miall made it 5 after another string of passing movements between the boys, Jake powered home on 41 minutes to complete an all round positive team display.
An encouraging performance today boys, great work all over the park.
Man of the Match: Daniel "the destroyer" Woolmer. pulled the opposition apart in Midfield and rewarded with 2 goals.
