TIGERS DOMINATE DESPITE SCORELINE
Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 1 - 0 Notley Youth Hawks
William Putt (28)
The scoreline reads 1 - 0 but the statistics look very different for their first game after an unexpected three week break. Tigers started strong and dominated for the whole game with a large amount of the possession, countless shots on and off target and for much of the game played some excellent football. Despite all of this the goals just would not come, on another day the scoreline would have looked very different.
The Tigers squad was down to eight today which meant all the boys got a good run out. Lukas Darby was in goal and had hardly anything to do all game, Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin were their usual confident selves and the reason that Lukas had little to do. The midfield line up included Tommy Unwin, William Putt, Daniel Woolmer, and a little later in the game, Jake Miall. George Bass took up the strikers position and gave the Notley keeper a hard time throughout the game.
The Notley keeper was one of the reasons for the scoreline being so low, pulling off some great saves much to the frustration of the Tigers and their spectators. The well deserved goal finally came on 28 minutes after yet another attack down the flanks, the ball was knocked in to the goal area and this time William Putt blasted home. The pressure grew and grew and shots rained down on the Notley goal, Jake Miall was very unlucky not to score when the keep was beat but Jake was denied by the cross bar. Attack after attack came with some excellent build up play but in the end the score bizarrely remained at 1 - 0. Credit must go to both teams defences who were excellent, Tigers defence kept another clean sheet which is great to see.
We must build on this performance ready for the Cup Semi-Finals over the next two weeks. Good team work all round today boys, lets just make sure the finishing is there too.
Man of the Match: Mighty Mitchell Dean for his solid performance in defence which was a big factor in keeping a clean sheet.
Steve, Richard and Mike.
The score was 1-0.
