TIGERS U9 TAKE THE FESTIVE 3 POINTS
Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 4 - 2 Mayland Village Vipers
OG (6)
George Bass (22)
William Putt (32)
Daniel Woolmer (35)
The last game of 2008 saw the Tigers away to a Mayland team that only had 6 players. The Tigers relished the challenge but were unable to find their pace, this may have been the force 9 gale blowing across the pitch. Credit must go to Mayland, despite being a man down put on a spirited performance and made life tough for the Tigers.
The Tigers goal came on 6 minutes when a Mayland player unfortunately put the ball in his own net. The Tigers battled on against the strong Mayland side, especially their defence and finally took the lead on 22 minutes when George Bass deflected in when the keeper tried to clear the ball from a Tigers corner. It was a streamlined Tigers team with a couple of players out. Lukas Darby took up his resident position in goal and pulled off some excellent saves. Mitchell Dean and Harry Blenkarn were in defence and really had to work hard this morning making critical tackles. George Bass, William Putt and Daniel Woolmer completed the midfield formation whilst Daniel Whitley was raring to go up front.
Mayland put in excellent counter attacks and Mitchell and Harry really had to make the tackles count today. Meanwhile the midfielders were up and down the park supporting at both ends. Jake Miall came on later in the first half to support the midfield formation. Mayland kept their attacks up and got a goal back leaving the Tigers at 2 - 1 in to the break. There was still lots of work to do though to protect the lead.
In the second half Tigers came out stronger and doubled their lead with two quick goals. William Putt made it 3 - 1 on 32 minutes after a goal mouth scramble, managed to get the ball over the line. His counterpart Daniel Woolmer then made it 4 - 1 on 35 minutes with a Woolmer special and blasted the ball home. The game was still 'end to end' right up to the final whistle and Mayland got a late second goal.
Finally and most importantly, the three points were bagged for this final away game of the year but Tigers must improve their performance for the big games in the New Year. Enjoy the well earned break, Merry Christmas and congratulations to you all and everyone involved with the Team in 2008.
Man of the Match: Mitchell "determined" Dean. Despite not feeling 100% put in a solid performance in defence making those all important final tackles. Brilliant work Mitchell.
The score was 4-2.
