The Tigers booked their place into the League Cup semi finals with an excellent away win at Mayland. Conditions deteriorated quickly for both teams into a wet and cold game. The Tigers were threatening from the outset however the Mayland defence were strong and held the Tigers back. The breakthrough came in the 13th minutes when Tigers were awarded yet another corner which was whipped in by William Putt, it took an unlucky Mayland deflection and 1 - 0 to the Tigers. The boys doubled their lead straight from the centre kick when Daniel Whitley made an inch perfect slide pass through to William Putt who blasted the ball home for 2 - 0. The Tigers weren't getting all the possession though as Mayland pulled one back.
In goal this week was the reliable Lukas Darby who had the extra task of dodging the pot holes in his goalmouth. Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin took up their resident defensive positions Connor made some excellent surges forward, whilst Mitchell kept it tight at the back. The midfield formation consisted of William Putt, Daniel Woolmer and Jake Miall, with all three boys working well together. George Bass started upfront and was busy hassling the Mayland defence.
After the break the boys continued where they left off although Mayland were turning up the pressure, Tiger's 3rd goal came on 33 minutes with Daniel Whitley shooting past the keeper (welcome back Daniel!). The Tigers had a re-shuffle and Tommy Unwin moved up from defence into midfield and was hungry for a goal, he got his reward on 40 minutes when Daniel Whitley slotted the ball through for Tommy to finish - well done! Mayland were not finished though and pulled a second goal back soon after. Tigers gave it one last surge, won a corner, Jake Miall played the ball into Connor Unwin who connected perfectly with it and drilled the ball home.
A good team performance this week with some lovely passing movements, just some work on stronger tackles and our positioning during the game required at training next week.
Man of the Match: Daniel Woolmer, for yet another solid performance in the middle of the park. Great work Daniel.
Finally, Callum Abbott is moving on after an excellent 18 months playing with the Tigers. Callum made a considerable contribution to the team with a total of 6 goals in all competitions, your team mates will miss you, all the best for the future Callum and thanks for your commitment during your time with us.
Steve, Richard and Mike.
