TIGERS U10 BATTLE IT OUT FOR A DRAW
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 1 - 1 Maldon Saints
Connor Unwin (6)
The Tigers returned to Elmwood after the summer break with a pre-season warm up game against local team Maldon Saints. Both teams came out of the blocks strong with chances at both ends. It was clear to see early on that today's game was going to be a tight battle with each team waiting for the other to make a mistake.
The Tigers squad has been strengthened over the summer and new signing Josh Jones making his debut and putting on a good first game display in central midfield. Captain William Putt took up position in his regular left midfield slot whilst Connor Unwin started over on the right. George Bass was hungry as ever starting up front for the Tigers. A small change back in defence for the start of this game with Tommy Unwin slotting into right back. Mitchell Dean started out over in his usual left back position and Lukas Darby completed the team between the sticks. Just like the England friendly the substitutions were thick and fast giving all players a good run out today. Revitalised Daniel Whitley came on half way through the first half up front and Jake Miall came in to support in midfield.
Connor Unwin opened his goal scoring account on 6 minutes after picking up on a loose ball from the Saints keeper and calmly slotted home for 1 - 0, well taken Connor. Saints were not going to take that lying down and soon after levelled. For much of the remainder of the half both teams had opportunities but could not gain the edge.
After the half time team talk the Tigers continued to pressure but were unable to find that elusive second goal. There were some heavy battles out there as well frequent opportunities and near misses. The Tigers came close on numerous occasions but on reflection the draw was a fair result. The Tigers need to polish up on their passing movements which they displayed so well on many occasions last season as well as being strong on all the challenges.
Overall a good performance after the break but we will need to step it up as we start life in the Blackwater Division. Thanks to Andy Franklin for refereeing today's match.
Man of the Match: Josh Jones: Once he had settled into the game Josh put in a 'solid' performance and kept possession on numerous occasion whilst under threat from the Saints.
