Match report

TIGERS COME CLOSE IN CUP QUALIFIER

Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 1 - 2 Dunmow Rhodes Tigers
Harry Blenkarn (40)

The Tigers were raring to go in this cup decider. A win would see them win the cup group, a draw and the runners up spot was secured and a loss would mean waiting until late on Sunday evening for the results of other games to see if they have to play a play off game.

The Elmwood pitch was holding up despite yet another wet and cold Sunday morning. Focus kicked off and had a couple of early chances which on another day would have been put away. The boys held their own against Dunmow but couldn't find that elusive goal. As the game went on the boys quietened (probably to do with the wet conditions) and were not able to keep the momentum up. Dunmow eventually took the lead early in the second half which was a blow for Focus.

After the break Focus pushed on but it was even stevens until the 40th minute when Daniel Woolmer got the ball under control and played it through to Harry Blenkarn who confidently drove it home... A great goal Harry! The boys were now seeing more possession and pushed for the winner in a positive 5 minute spell. Alas it was Dunmow who came out on top, when one of their midfielders let fly from outside the box and the ball end up in the net.

The tired Focus boys were unable to find an answer despite late pressure on Dunmow who took the three cup points. This weeks team included Lukas Darby in goal and caked in mud by the end. Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin started the game at the back and worked well together in the first half. Tommy Unwin came in for the second half and had to stay on his toes throughout. Midfielders William Putt, Daniel Woolmer, George Bass, Jake Miall and Harry Blenkarn had to battle for the full 50 minutes, Josh Jones started up front giving the Dunmow defence a run for their money and Daniel Whitley took over later in the half and kept the momentum going.

Man of the Match: Harry Blenkarn for his work and confidence in front of goal, and was rewarded with his first of the season. Brilliant work Harry.
