TIGERS RUN OUT OF STEAM IN CUP SEMI
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 1 - 2 Baddow Spartak
Jake Miall (30)
After a long break due to the wet weather The Tigers resumed their 2nd leg Cup Semi game against the strong Baddow Spartak. The fixture was on home turf so expectations were high and there was real belief that the one goal deficit could be turned around.
The Tigers applied early pressure and came close to taking the lead, but as the half went on Baddow became stronger and stronger. They eventually broke the deadlock before half time when their striker collected a lose ball and buried it. Minutes later they got their second and now the Tigers heads were dropping - the half time whistle couldn't come quickly enough.
Ten Tigers were available but unfortunately Josh Jones was taken sick just before kick off. Down to nine but this did not deter the Tigers. Lukas Darby was in goal and ready for action. Mitchell Dean, Connor Unwin and Tommy Unwin took up position in defence and all three put in a solid shift. Midfield workhorses consisted of George Bass, William Putt, and Danny Woolmer. Up front were Daniel Whitley and Jake Miall, both hungry for goals.
After a real heart to heart half time team talk the boys raised there game from the start and were looking much stronger. Tigers attacks became more frequent and they started to apply the pressure. Finally on 30 minutes Jake Miall got on the end of a through ball and slotted home for 2 - 1. The boys spirits were getting higher and higher. The home crowd were encouraging the boys, but the goals just would not come. Referee Andy Franklin finally blew and the Tigers Cup dream was over for another year. Over the two legs the boys had not been outplayed and put two goals past Baddow who have only conceded a goal all season in the league. The boys must now focus on the league and getting more points on the board.
Man of the Match: William Putt, he worked tirelessly for the full 50 minutes moving up and down the field. Greatly deserved.
Player of the Month: George Bass: Solid and gritty displays over the past month with George showing 100% commitment throughout. Well Done George.
Steve, Richard and Mike.
The score was 1-2.
