TIGERS MAKE IT THROUGH TO CUP SEMI
Focus Ferrers Tigers U10 3 - 1 Braintree Town Yellows U10
Connor Unwin (21, 46)
Daniel Whitley (50+4)
Today was a must win game for the Tigers, despite coming second in their cup group they were obliged to play a Cup Play off with Braintree Town Yellows with the winner proceeding to the Cup Semi Finals. At last... a game of football after the weather did it's best over the last month to prevent that.
The boys were really up for this one and soon got under way, Yellows were just as hyped and for much of the first time it was end to end football and all being played in the right spirit. As the game went on the Tigers got their passing moves together and started to test the Braintree keeper. The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Connor Unwin went on a charging run down the right wing and shot from wide out on the right, the ball ended up in the back of goal, 1 - 0 to the Tigers and a wonder goal for Connor. The boys pushed on but went into the break a goal up, they were going to need more...
This weeks line up included Lukas Darby in goal with a solid performance this week, Mitchell Dean and Tommy Unwin took up position in defence with both boys holding a strong line across the back. Daniel Woolmer, William Putt and Josh Jones were the strong midfield line up for the day. Daniel Whitley had the hard task of striker and hassled the Yellows throughout the game. Connor Unwin came into midfield as well as defence later in the game and showed his effectiveness all over the park. George Bass came on up front and threatened the Yellows goal throughout the game. Jake Miall also put in a strong performance down the right flank and got some good balls into the box.
The boys came out for the second half and continued to dominate with some real tests being made on the Yellows keeper. Then out of the blue the Yellows broke free, Tigers were caught out at the back and 1 - 1... not another draw - surely?! The Tigers really started to dig in and turned up the heat, Connor's second goal came on 46 minutes when he scrambled to get the ball past the keeper from close range. The Braintree threat was always there and the Tigers had to be solid from front to back. The game was sealed in the dying seconds when Connor pushed forward and played a sublime ball through to Daniel Whitley who drove it home. 3 - 1 to the Tigers and a delicious Cup Semi to look forward to. Cracking effort from all the team in a well contested battle.
Man of the Match: Connor 'the man who can' Unwin: Caused Braintree problems from start to finish with some confident runs, scored 2 and assisted the 3rd. Great effort!
