Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 1 - 0 Torquespeed Turbo
William Putt (35)
The boys returned to football after a months well earned break following their phenomenal season and chamipons of U9's Dengie League. It was a trip to Tiptree and a friendly game against the strong and successful top division Torquespeed Turbo. Now we're in the close season it's time to experiment with the boys and trying out some news positions.
It was a warm Sunday morning but the Tigers were roaring from the outset. They saw good early possession and it soon became clear that they were a good match for the opposition. There was a re-shaped midfield today with William Putt, Connor Unwin and Jake Miall as well as Ross. In spite of some new faces in new positions the boys controlled the middle of the park extremely well pushing forward and retreating at pace. In defence Mitchell Dean found himself with a new partner Harry Blenkarn. Once Harry had settled down he proved his worth by putting in some confident tackles and worked well with Mitchell. Both boys contributed to today's clean sheet. Tommy Unwin came into defence during the game and in true Tommy style stopped the opposition in their tracks. Tommy worked extremely hard up and down the left flank today. Lukas Darby resumed his position between the sticks and looked calm and confident through out the game. Lukas was called upon to make some hard saves as well. Striker George Bass was quick and chased down many of the bouncing balls and came very close after beating the defence on a couple of occasions.
Both teams put on an excellent display today, the Tigers showed how well they can pass the ball and there much switching flanks which resulted in the crossbar and post being hit as well as great stops from the Torquespeed keeper. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and it came on 35 minutes when William Putt connected with a rebounding ball outside the box and launched a left foot screamer that ended up in the back of the net. The boys confidence was riding high and they all put on a worthy display including some show boating from Connor over on the right flank.
One lesson to be learned... after excellent passing and getting forward, we need to release the ball earlier into the box for the waiting strikers. Overall a really strong performance from the Tigers today. Well played boys.
Man of the Match: A tricky one with the high quality performance but this time it goes to William Putt with the stunning goal which tipped the balance.
Steve, Mike and Richard.
The score was 1-0.
