TIGERS LAUNCH FRIENDLY FIRE
Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 6 - 0 Maldon Saints
Daniel Woolmer (5)
George Bass (19, 22, 38)
Jake Miall (32, 36)
This was the first of a couple of friendlies arranged in the close season for the Tigers and they continued their winning streak against a very good and determined Maldon Saints team. The sun shone down on a glorious Elmwood pitch and the boys were soon basking in the sunshine.
The Tigers took the lead on 5 minutes when Daniel Woolmer found himself in a 1 on 1 situation with the keeper and calming powered home. Plenty more attacks followed but it took until the 19th minute for the boys to double their lead, this time George Bass got on the end of a spilled shot to put the ball home. George was hungry for more and three minutes later he poached another goal to make it 3 - 0 at half time, excellent work George.
It was the regular line up this week of Lukas Darby in goal who is in fine form and kept another clean sheet this week. Tommy Unwin started in defence alongside Connor Unwin and later Mitchell Dean. All three contributed to the clean sheet too. Midfielders Daniel Woolmer, William Putt and Jake Miall controlled the centre of the park today whilst Daniel Whitley and George Bass hassled the Maldon defence up front.
After the break Saints came out really strong and were unfortunately not to score. The Tigers got back into their rhythm when Jake Miall ran down the right flank and shot past the keeper and 4 - 0. Not content with that he took a long range shot and scored a superb goal on 36 minutes. The Tigers continued to play some quality football all over the park and George finished the game off with his hatrick after William beat the keeper, knocked the ball across and George tapped home.
The final result was 6 - 0 although this scoreline doesn't reflect how well Maldon played and battled. An egg-cellent result! Enjoy the Easter break boys!
Man of the Match: George "the Battler" Bass: George showed his dominance up front and battled for every ball. Congratulations on your hatrick too George!
Finally, many thanks to the Referee Richard "Mike Riley" Bass for stepping in and doing an excellent job.
Steve, Richard and Mike
The score was 6-0.
