Friendly game - RESULT
TIGERS U9 SETTLE FOR GRITTY STALEMATE
Focus Ferrers Tigers U9 1 - 1 Hatfield Peverel
Daniel Whitley (27)
This was the last of the friendly games before next week's League Cup Final. It was an away fixture over at Hatfield Peverel who are the current league leaders of the U9's Crouch Division. It was a lunchtime kick off and it was end to end football with solid challenges being made all over the park. The Tigers had a few early opportunities but were unable to convert them into goals. Later in the first half the Tigers conceded a corner. Hatfield took it well and the Tigers failed to pick up on a man in the box and suddenly found themselves behind.
After the half time team talk the boys came out much more livelier and started to string passes together. Two minutes into the second half the Tigers won a free kick back in their own half. William Putt stepped up and launched a ball into the Hatfield box, after a goal mouth scramble Daniel Whitley confidently put the ball home to level the game at 1 - 1. The Tigers were now creeping in and more passing movements were being strung together. The boys came very close to snatching a winner but the ball just went wide.
The Tigers line up for this Friendly included Lukas Darby in goal who had a confident game and stopped a shot late in the game. The defending unit comprised of Mitchell Dean and Connor Unwin who both controlled the rear with confidence. Daniel Woolmer, Daniel Whitley, Jake Miall and William Putt patrolled the midfield and battled to keep the ball on the ground on the small pitch. George Bass was the usual powerhouse upfront keeping the Hatfield defenders on their toes.
The game finished up a draw, the Tigers edged it in the second half but couldn't quite dig out the winner. The Tigers remain unbeaten since September 2008 and battled to keep this statistic today. The run in to the Cup Final next Sunday starts here.....! Good Luck Boys to each and every one of you. As Managers, parents, families and friends we are all proud of your achievements to date.
Man of the Match: Two contenders this week with Mitchell "defending" Dean just edging it over William "powering" Putt. Well done Mitchell for your high standard of work at the back.
