LIONS TOIL IN JETSTREAM
Hatfield Peverel Jets u10s 1
Focus Ferrers Lions u10s 1
With 3 league matches to play the Lions travelled to Hatfield Peverel with perhaps an end of term feel to the fixture. Their position as runners up in the league is far from certain and this result will not have helped. The early rain had cleared and a strong Andrew shot, was quickly followed by a fine running left foot effort from Callum. The pitch was hard, and the ball somewhat soft so Jamie , James and Nathan were met by an aerial bombardment as the Jets keeper launched his own version of "shock and awe". The boys were up to the challenge and continued to hold the possession. Ben P made some strong forward runs and some quality through balls but the clear cut chances did not fall. Lucas was patrolling the right flank and his volcano induced holiday had not affected his trickery as he cut one way then the other. Ben B and Jack came on as the first half developed but the Jets proved as stubborn and awkward as last week. Jamie had to field a number of tricky long shots but his handling was first class. No goals at the break but the opener was not long coming. Nathan won the ball at the back and fed Ben P who made an excellent run down the left and cut it back into the box. Tom foxed the defender with a clever dummy allowing the ball to run for Ben B who finished low into the corner.Far from opening things up the Lions retreated into their shell. There was no real competition for the ball in midfield and the Jets had matters to themselves as shots started to fire in on Jamie. The boys pushed for a second goal and a Tom volley narrowly missed as did a Callum pot shot but 1 goal was never enough. On 44 mins the Jets scrambled one home and it was 1-1 with all to play for. Unfortunately there was to be no rousing finish, as the ball continued to remain off the pitch more than on it, with the Jets relying on passing ramblers to retrieve the ball as it left the field on a regular basis. Some good individual displays from the Lions but we must look for a real team effort next week against Maldon. Well played boys.
