LIONS PROVIDE MOTHERS DAY FEAST
Focus Ferrers Lions u10s 12
Springfield Youth u10s 1
The Lions were on stage at 10 for this rearranged fixture and set about their task with a spring in their step.Jack set up the opener on just 4 mins which was finally credited to Ben P after use of the goalline technology.Within a minute James had made it 2-0 after some classic Lucas wizadry on the left.It was very much one way traffic but the Springfield team were showing excellent team spirit as they challenged for everything.Further chances came as Ben B arrowed in several crosses , and it was from the right that the third goal came as Ben B put in Tom who slipped the ball across to Lucas to score from close range. On 16 mins Ben B himself opened his account as Nathan and Jack found him unmarked in the area and he buried a low shot.Springfield continued to show total committment and pulled one back on 18 mins with a fabulous run and shot leaving Callum no chance at all.The first half finished with Tom making it 5 with a cheeky low shot which was aided by Ben Bs little dummy.Jack then weighed in with a shot onto the bar before Referee Lee called time. Callum continued his good recent form with a trademark free kick on 26 mins which the keeper could only help over the line.We were then treated to a further three goal burst from James who rightly acknowledged the assists provided by the hard working Tom and Ben P. At 9-1 with 10 mins to go Springfield could have folded, but their spirit at times gained greater cheers than the Focus men who were scoring at will, but not passing with true crispness. Lucas made it 10 with a deft finish from the right. Ben B then saw some serious action in the Lions goal as a series of Springfield efforts were expertly parried. The final blows came in the 48 th minute as first Jamie and then Callum ran through the Springfield defence to bring up the dozen.Well done to the Lions for some clever finishing but a real battle awaits at Dunmow next week when there will need to be an upturn in pace, passing and energy. A special mention to the Springfield managers and players for their wonderful sportsmanship in what has been a very tough season for them.
