LIONS SLIP UP
Focus Ferrers Lions u10s 2
Silver End u10s 2
A late ko for the boys after yet another weather enforced holiday.A league encounter with Silver End with the boys knowing an outside run at the title was still a possibility. A good start saw the Lions pin the Silver warriors back and Callum struck an early shot just wide. The pitch was in excellent condition and Ben P followed up with a firm low shot which the keeper got behind.Nathan was making some strong runs and the Lions looked threatening on both flanks. Ben B was todays guest goalkeeper and was having a very comfortable time of it with very few Silver End breaks.A goal seemed inevitable but it was not to be. Callum and Ben P fed Tom who was free on goal but the Silver keeper reacted quickly and burst off his line to smother the ball. Jamie was in an outfield position today, and was threading some sweet passes from the back and demonstrating his considerable strength all over the park .Further chances fell to Andrew , Lucas and Callum but it was 0-0 at half time. After the break Callum moved up front and had an immediate chance to open the scoring on 26 mins but his chance squirmed wide.Silver End then came back at the boys but James was in commanding form and the Silver attackers simply bounced off him.Stand in keeper number 2, Ben P had to fend off some dangerous corners as the Silverados had a great little spell. The opener came with the boys showing some rare aggression. Jack won a decisive tackle in midfield and fed Ben B who slipped a clever ball through to Andrew on the right who drove for the line and crossed for an unmarked Callum who slotted it home.Soon after, Nathan surged forward again and fed Lucas who put Callum through on the edge of the area. His low shot hit the post and rebounded away. The boys were clearly very pleased with this move as they all stopped to admire their efforts while Silver End came away with the ball ! It was the A12 men who were showing the real enthusiasm despite the score. It was however 2 -0 to the Lions on 42 mins as Ben Bs cross from the right was directed into his own net by the Silver number 3. Perhaps in honour of Oscars night the boys then decided to produce their own version of a horror film as they quite simply "lost the plot". Standing off the Silver End men on 46 mins allowed the dangerous number 7 to advance on goal and fire home a powerful shot leaving Ben P with no chance at all. With just 2 mins to go the boys received the ultimate wake up call as the same Silver End player sent in a long range shot which Ben P managed to tip onto the bar , only for the ball to hit the back of his head and roll over the line. Some frantic chances followed but the Lions could not repair the damage. This result will hurt, but the Lions must start to realise that individual skills are never a match for proper team spirit and passing. Well done boys.
