LIONS FIND VALLEY FAR FROM GREEN
Valley Green Knights u10s 1
Focus Ferrers Lions u10s 1
Sales of washing powder will surely help the economic recovery after this mud bath in Witham. A lunchtime ko saw all of the overnight frost disappear as the tiny Valley Green pitch was a vision of brown. From the start it was clear that the beautiful game was having a day off as both sides battled to get the ball moving. An early strong run and cross from Tom on the left just evaded the onrushing Callum.Soon after Ben B put away Tom again and his shot just missed the target. The Valley men had the advantage of the slope and pinned the Lions back with a series of corners. Jamie made a fine fingertip save from a dangerous shot and James was a collosous at the back keeping everything at bay.It was the Valley side who opened the scoring. A throw from the left went into the box and the boys did a bit of ball watching as the attacker stuck out a toe and squeezed it in at Jamies far post. The boys responded well with a noticeable increase in pace. Jack and Ben P joined Andrew in entering the fray and pressure was turned up. Andrew made some strong runs down the left and Lucas seemed to have the measure of the left back. Just before half time Andrew pinched the ball from the Valley defender and drove into the box. His angled shot was only parried and Lucas pounced to fire home the equaliser. The second half was fairly one way traffic as the Lions dominated. Ben P and Andrew passed their way through on several occassions with the keeper keeping them out. Ben B was having a stormer and in his new wing back role was sending in a series of excellent crosses. All of the boys were getting forward and Jamie was looking a little lonely in goal. Nathan was having a fairly quiet game but showed some deft touches to bring the ball out from the back.Callum and Jack also showed some real quality in spreading the ball wide and away from the muddy glue. A Ben B cross and Andrew header just missed as did a Lucas trademark dribble. The ref called it a day with honours even and both sides earning deserved applause. Well done boys.
