The Elmwood surface was in fantastic condition and from earlier cup encounters the boys knew this was going to be a tough match up.The Lions began in excellent style with a strong run from Tom , after some clever work at the back by James. On 5 minutes Ben P made a timely interception and fed Jack who worked the ball through to Lucas whose left foot cracker brought a full length save from the Tiptree keeper. Tiptree were very strong and with the number 6 and 10 pulling the strings they began to find their feet. The new defensive pairing of James and Ben P were reading the game very well however the chances still came. On 9 mins a firm shot from the right saw Jamie just manage to tip the ball over. The opener came following a fine run from Tom who released Andrew who shot for the corner. The ball was blocked and it was Lucas who pounced steering it home. Some substitutions were made and the attacking flow continued. Ben B continued his fine form from last week making  some powerful runs down the right and Nathan again proved effective as the attacking defender.Lee the ref got the second half underway and what a half it proved to be. Tiptree had the slight advantage of the Elmwood slope and within 3 mins they had equalised with a well worked shot giving Jamie no chance. It was bounce back time and within 60 secs the Lions were back in front. Nathan made a timely interception and drove upfield before passing to Ben B whose strong shot went in at the near post. Soon after it was 3-1 as Tom made a  similar run as he evaded two challenges before laying the ball  off to the ever grateful Ben B who found the net again. The fans were on a high and there were then  calls for a pen as Tom was fouled right on the edge of the area. All eyes turned to Lee the ref , who had earlier enquired "just out of interest where is the penalty spot Mike ?" , nobody knew and hence a free kick was the unsurprising decision. Callum fired in a trademark rocket but this was blocked by a bruised Tiptree defender. The match then took a twist as a Tiptree breakaway saw a bobbling shot evade Jamies grasp to bring it back to 3-2. The boys responded in fine style. Andrew made a succession of breaks and Ben P added some trademark stepovers as the Lions played some of their best football. It was 4-2 when Ben B whipped over a cross from the right and Tom reacted superbly to connect with a right foot volley, a well deserved goal after a fine match. The boys signed off in style as the move of the match saw Andrew and Jack put Tom through again but rather than shoot he slid the ball across for Callum to finish with confidence. Probably the best performance of the season from the boys as the energy levels increased and real teamwork returned. Well done boys.
