RUTHLESS LIONS TURN ON STYLE

After last weeks sterling efforts, the Lions travelled with a full squad for this daylight savings league encounter. The opener came after just 5 mins as Callum used great awareness with  a quick free kick on the left  squaring it to Ben B who fizzed home a  left foot shot. A suitable gift  for his watching Grandad who was celebrating his 21st Birthday the following day ! The Fella was causing all sorts of problems on the left  and it was the Bicknacre  wizard who found Ben B on the right and his floated cross was met expertly by Callum “Carlton Cole “ O . A fast start from the boys and they looked in great form with Nathan and Jamie at the back picking up every loose ball and Ben P starting between the sticks as an auxillary sweeper. It was 3-0 on 15 mins when Callum was set free by Lucas and showed great control as he surged away from the last defender and powered home an unstoppable shot. Nathan tried his luck from long range soon after before coach JD introduced some changes. On came Jack, Tom and Andrew with all quickly adjusting to the pace of the game. Andrew made some dangerous runs down the left and Jack as ever calmly went about his very effective business with some timely challenges and top level passing. It was 4 -0 when Andrew was played in by Nathan and Jamie and he slipped a pass to Tom. Tom reacted superbly with a first time shot but the keeper could only parry and in swooped the predatory Ben B to slot it home. The second half was a little more subdued but still saw some real quality. Ben P was now out and showed some wonderful dribbling and a classic overhead kick which just drifted wide. James was effortlessly moving through the gears at the back adding that usual calm authority and all boys were on top of their game. It was 4-0 when Ben P threaded a ball into Tom who paced away from the last man and banged home a crisp low shot for a deserved return to the scoring stats. Andrew was now adopting a wing back role and was having a stormer, as he outpaced everyone in his path both in attack and defence. Lucas made it 6-0 with a bobbly shot on 43 mins  which he sheepishly  tried to disown . Thereafter some further chances came and went with Ben P almost breaking the bendy crossbar with a dipping volley and Nathan almost breaking his nose with an errant volley of his own. All round a very confident performance from the boys as they move into the chocolate break with much still to play for. Well done boys.
