LIONS BATTLE IT OUT IN JAM COUNTRY
Tiptree Jobserve u10s 0
Focus Ferrers Lions u10s 0
The boys travelled back to Tiptree with a smaller squad after Callum went down sick overnight. Despite recent rain the Tiptree pitch was as hard as ever and the boys were expecting some aerial pressure. A very quiet start saw most of the battles in the midfield where Ben B , Jack and Andrew were holding their own. Most success seemed to be down the right and a Ben B cross after just 4 mins saw Tom meet it on the volley but the effort went wide.Jamie was not tested early on and it was the Lions who held most possession with the slight slope in their favour. For the second week running the match ball seemed a little strange but it allowed a number of great corners and James got on the end of one and headed just wide. Nathan was not seeing much of the ball but tried to pass it out from the back whenever possible. Lucas and Ben P joined the fray and some crosses came in from both wings. It was a Lucas cross that was met by Tom on 20 mins only for the post to come to the home teams aid.Goaless at the break the boys had to get the ball down and pass if they were to create chances on a more consistent basis. It was however Tiptree who made the running and used the slope to good effect. Jamie made 3 fantastic saves from looping long range shots and one saw him tip it over the bar then clatter into the plastic. As the game wore on anything resembling midfield seemed to disapear, with both teams taking it in turns to attack. Andrew made some strong breaks down the right and whipped in a cross that Tom met first time but just span over. For the third week running the Lions fans witnessed a goalmouth melee but neither Lucas nor Andrew could prod it past the keeper. Plenty of individual skill was on show but the boys were failing to take the easy option of looking to pass to another blue shirt. In the end a draw was a very fair result and the Lions will perhaps quietly reflect on the fact that when they choose to pass as a team there are few teams that can live with them. Well done boys.
