LIONS TOO STRONG FOR KNIGHTS
Great Notley Knights u9s 0
Focus Ferrers Lions u9s 4Talk of new boots and new kits came to an end as the Lions resumed competitive football after an extensive summer break! The tufty village green at Notley was the scene for the opening league fixture and the boys put on a display of great passing and movement.Ben P started in attack and had an excellent early chance after just 2 mins following good work by Lucas. However the knights were extemely well organised and Alex was called upon shortly after to make a smart close range save. The boys were passing well and Ben B and Callum were particularly noticeable with some clever combinations..At the back captain James was teaming up with Nathan and they had plenty to do as the Knights number 10 was showing some excellent control.Golden boot winner Tom came on midway through the half with Jack and within minutes the Lions were in front.Excellent work from Callum and Ben B led to poacher Tom having little difficulty in finishing. After the break the boys opened up as Lucas cut through the defence on a mazy run before smashing a shot against the post.Ben P was on hand to tap in the rebound and it was 2-0.The knights remained strong and the number 10 again broke away only to see Alex pull off an excellent trademark double save.James was now bringing the ball out of defence whenever possible and his 40 yard run and pass to Lucas nearly led to a third.
Callum was finding plenty of room on the right courtesy of the ever efiicient supply line from the tireless Jack.A sweet exchange of passes involving Jamie ,Jack and Ben B set Callum away again and his thunderbolt shot pinged off the post for Tom to grab the third. The victory was confirmed with a best of the day goal from Tom that brought up his deserved hat trick with a wonderful turn and shot to the corner. A stylish performance indeed, well done boys its good to be back.
