STYLISH LIONS IN STRONG POSITION
Focus Ferrers Lions u9s 5
Great Notley Knights u9s 0
This was Elmwoods version of super sunday with both Focus teams involved in cup semi finals.Car parking spaces were hard to come by as both sides came with plenty of support. The Lions again started well with some wonderful passing movements involving Ben B and Jack. James was once more in a forward role and the partnership with the ever busy Tom continually troubled the Knights defence. James had an early shot that was turned round and then a succession of corners delivered expertly by Ben B almost brought the opener. At the back it was an unchanged lineup with Alex looking really sharp in goal and Nathan and Jamie taking up where they left off from last week with some excellent distribution. The first goal came on 10 mins after Ben B was put through by a sweet pass from Jack and floated over a lovely cross for James to power in a Cahill style header. The Lions kept up the tempo and some lovely football followed.Callum and Ben P joined the fray and chances came and went.It was 2-0 just before half time after excellent work from Jamie put in Ben B who buried a firm shot into the bottom corner. After the break the knights held some early possession but Alex was having a superb day for handling and nothing ever looked like passing him.Nathan and Jamie continued to impress and Nathan showed some wonderful composure in bringing the ball out so effortlessley. The third goal came after some quick feet from Callum opened up a half chance for Ben P who fired in another sharp shot past the Knights keeper. On 43 mins it was 4-0 as a Callum corner was flicked on by Tom and the volley smashed in by Ben B. James made it 5 just before the end when from another excellent corner he reacted first and volleyed in his second. No appearance this week from Lucas who is still suffering from his ankle injury. This was a very slick performance from the boys and puts them in a good position for the second leg next week. Well done boys.
