LIONS SLIDE PAST HAWKS

Notley Youth Hawks u9s 0
Despite the parents praying for a cancellation text the match went ahead in what turned out to be the best of the Sunday mornings weather.Having met only last week in the cup there were plenty of familiar faces braving the elements. The boys were quickly into their stride as Lucas dribbled past two Hawk defenders before side footing in the opener on 3 mins.Shots were coming in fast and Jack hit a particularly skilful left foot effort a few minutes later. The second came after Nathan brought the ball out of defence setting Ben B free on the right. His clever pass to Lucas led to a threatening cross that Tom had no difficulty in finishing.Ben P replaced Jack midway through the half and found plenty of the ball. His shot from the left narrowly spun wide and then a fine run and cross from the left wing just failed to reach the incoming Tom.The third goal came on 15 mins as Lucas again cut into the Hawks area to finish with ease.Just before half time Tom hit a thundering shot that rattled the post. After the break the Hawks seized the early possession but James and Jamie were sliding in with relish on the muddy surface.Alex had remained the cleanest player in the first half but was now very busy as the Hawks number 6 was posing a real threat. The save of the day came when Alex sprang from his line to bravely dive at the feet of the Hawks forward when a goal seemed the more likely outcome. As for the Lions attack the goals kept coming with Callum finshing well on 28 after an excellent left wing run from Tom.Nathan then finished in similar fashion after great work from Bens P and B in tandem.Ben B stabbed home the sixth after Nathans left foot shot hit the post and for the last few minutes we saw a real energy about the boys which had been missing for much of the match.Nathan broke into the area and scored the seventh and then Callum buried the last goal with a strong left foot shot from just inside the area. The Lions finished with a flourish but must concentrate on their sharpness and crisp passing as the heavier winter pitches are upon us.Well done boys.
