A late kick off for the lions against newly promoted Mayland. Not for the first time this season a colour clash with Mayland sporting a similar light blue and white kit as the boys. Coach Warren disappeared to the kit cupboard returning with an all white number which at first glance seemed to do the trick. Early pressure from the boys with chances for Tom Butcher whistling a right foot shot just wide. Further possession continued before Ben Jackman was felled on the edge of the area. Callum Osmond pinged in a curling free kick and Tom responded well to pounce on the rebound. The keeper kept the shot at bay before Ben Prentice steered it home. The boys should have kicked on after a quickfire opener but the quality of play took a real dip. Possession remained with the boys but passes went astray and it all became little rushed. Kane Paveley bucked the trend with some quality defending but the play in general lacked any flow. Chances appeared with Andrew Hill and Tom working some nice shapes and Ben Jackman narrowly missing on the right. Half time came with just the one goal in it. A reshuffle was needed but it was the kit that felt the managerial hairdryer as the pale white outfit was now set off with a bold red bib. What a move , as within a minute of the break Callum and Ben P made some sweet music on the right and played in Andrew who slammed it home. The greater visibilty was making a real difference. It was 3-0 shortly after as Callum played a volleyed pass down the right which Andrew caught and whipped across the area. Jack Fuller then walloped home a fantastic left foot shot leaving the keeper with no chance at all. The boys were now hitting their stride Nathan Warren and James Caples were moving forward with menace and lucas Doherty was again jinking away down the left as though he had never been away. A corner on the left was swung in at the near post and met by the back heel of Ben Prentice to bring up number 4. The Mayland team were deserving of a consolation but Jamie Penkman was using his full range of body parts to keep them at bay with a very solid display between the sticks. On 44 minutes Callum thundered a shot against the post and soon after brilliant work by the lively Tom on the left sent in a cross which just escaped Nathans outstretched leg. Number 5 saw Andrew Hill literally fighting on all fours on the right wing before sweeping the ball across for Ben P who struck a fabulous low shot into the corner. Some further chances arose but it finished at 5-0 with the boys showing some fine form in the second half.Well done boys.
