The last league match of the season saw the Lions put in an impressive shift at the Elmwood arena. With a lush green surface awaiting, the boys were back in competitive action for the first time in three weeks. A crisp early move saw Jack and Lucas play a wonderful series of one twos before releasing Callum on the right who tested the keeper with a trademark shot. The boys were making progress down the left and Nathan and James at the back found space to bring the ball out. However the Knights had upped their game since the cup semi final and threatened on more than one occassion with firm shots and a strong header from a corner. Alex was  looking very sharp in goal ,despite sporting some huge comedy style gloves, and was marshalling his troops well at the back.On 15 mins a sweet long pass from Jamie saw Jack in on goal. The Knights keeper made a fantastic save from his shot, and Tom just squeezed the rebound wide. A Ben P free kick shortly after , also saw the Knights keeper keep the Lions at bay. The boys had just shaded possession , but it was goaless at the break. A Hiddink style chat at half time brought immediate rewards as Jack played in James whose left foot shot was steered home by the predatory Ben P. There was a noticeable zip about the boys, and the next 15 mins saw perhaps the best football of the season. That being said it was still marked with a contender for "soccer bloopers" as Jack conjured up a hilarious left foot air shot which sent him tumbling to the floor. Nathan almost made it 2 with a dipping long shot which the keeper palmed over. Alex then made a stunning save as the Knights fired in a cracking shot from the left. Ben P made it 2-0 as his powerful cross shot was drilled into the corner. Three minutes later Ben P and James put in Tom and he finished sweetly to put the game out of sight. A slight lull followed, before a strong finish saw Callum belt in a shot from the edge of the area and then James calmly finish proceedings with a fine solo effort. Despite missing the wing play of the sun soaked Ben B this was a fine end to the league season for the boys who finished in third place with a very healthy goal difference of +56. The league cup final next week  promises to be a fantastic occasion. Well done boys.
