LIONS HELD BY BRAVE KNIGHTS

Focus Ferrers Lions u9s    0
Valley Green Knights u9s  0

This was the last group match for the Lions in the league cup having already qualified for the March semi finals.Valley Green travelled from Witham knowing a point would  also see them through. It was clear the Knights had the desire as they grabbed the early possession and kept Alex very much on his  muddy toes.Jamie had returned after a 2 week abscence and was looking extremely strong with captain James as they saw a lot of attacks coming their way.Ben P and Jack were also busy in midfield and slowly the possession switched to the Lions.Jack was very strong in a number of challenges and set Ben P free down the left for a surging run and left foot cross.Lucas was also now finding space and after a smart release from James he sped down the right and his cross was just missed by target man Callum.A slick one two between Callum and Lucas kept the pressure on as another cross fizzed in but the Knights were bold.Nathan and Tom came on midway through the half and the passing continued.Tom in particular was looking sharp and held the ball up well bringing his midfield into the attacks. After the break the Lions really upped the tempo as Ben P turned on a five pence piece to aim a shot which the Knights keeper saved well. Then the move of the match saw Lucas sweep in a delightful left foot cross which Ben B met with a first time half volley but again the keeper kept it out.Tom then moved wide and floated in a great cross which missed everyone in front of goal.Callum was next in line as his angled shot just missed the post together with  the onrushing Lucas.James and Jamie were now camped in the Knights half with Alex as a redundant sweeper but concentration needed to be sharp as the Knights also broke on several occassions. The Knights fans were baying the rather subdued ref for the whistle and when it came they celebrated having secured the point that now pitches them against the  Focus Ferrers Tigers in a two legged semi in March. The Lions now return to league action next week and will look forward to their own cup semi against Mayland.A second successive draw for the Lions showing their battling qualities once more.Well done boys.
