LIONS TOO STRONG FOR VIPERS
Mayland Village Vipers u9s 1
Focus Ferrers Lions u9s 6
A full strength line up for the Lions as they looked to shake off the rustiness of last weeks performance at Valley Green. From the start there was a far greater fluency in the boys play and the chances came thick and fast.An early Lucas shot just squeezed past the post after great work from Ben B on the right. James then went close getting on the end of a sweet move involving Ben P. The Vipers keeper was initially reluctant to use his hands but he was no less effective for it. The shots reined in but all stayed out. The boys kept there shape and some lovely combinations were created including a great move involving Nathan and Ben B who swept over a cross that James hit on the half volley.Jack came on and set Lucas free down the left but again the Vipers defence stayed firm. It took the introduction of Tom to get the score card moving. The Vipers cleared from the back and Tom skilfully brought the ball under control before clobbering a high left foot shot spiralling at the keeper. Perhaps a little fortunately the ball squeezed under the keeper to put the boys in front. Just three minutes later Tom got his second with a calm finish after great work from both Jamie up from defence and Ben P. Just before half time the recuperating Lucas took his bow with a thundering shot which the Viper keeper tipped over spectacularly. The second half saw very early action.Callums corner was neatly volleyed in by Tom to complete his 7 minute hatrick, and the match was as good as over. The next 10 minutes saw some top football. Callum was making some great passes and Jack and Ben P were switching play left and right. On 30 Minutes Tom pulled the ball back for Jack who sent in a subtle little lob which completely foxed the keeper. The defence had not been fully occupied but the Vipers were stil in there fighting and they pulled one back on 32 mins with a wonderful solo effort which gave Alex little chance. Nathan responded at the other end with a piledriver of a shot which was again tipped over by the keeper. Jamie was having a strong game at the back and despite the score he was still making some decisive challenges. Callum began to see more of the ball down the right and he made it 5 with a firm low shot through a number of defenders. He closed matters out with a long range special which arrowed into the corner. This was definitely a step up from last week and the score could have quite easily been double the 6 that the boys scored. Well done boys, but remember to keep the work rate up for the whole match no matter what the score might be.
