Another league cup encounter for the boys as they matched up to the very familiar Hawks team.A somewhat subdued atmosphere saw the boys start slightly sharper than in recent weeks and the Hawks were soon under pressure. The first goal came on 5 mins as excellent work by Jack and Ben P put in Nathan on the corner of the area and he curled in a lovely shot which went in off the underside of the bar.Within a minute Callum had wrapped his right peg around the ball and cracked a shot against the post. The Hawks keeper was having a fantastic game and took a heavy blow to the face from a Callum corner but bravely battled on.James was having something of a battle with the energetic Hawks defence but as ever was equal to the challenge making some surging runs into the Hawks half.Ben B entered the fray and took over ball winning duties from the tidy Jack who had completed virtually all of his passes. On 16 mins Lucas and Ben B fed the ball across the area and Callum was on hand to fizz in a shot into the top corner. The Hawks never give up and Alex had to remind his defence of this at a couple of corners as the ball was whipped across.Just before half time victory was pretty much sealed as a superb ball out of defence from Ben P put Nathan away and his delightful cross from the right gave Lucas the easiest of chances. After the break Tom led the front line and dragged the Hawks defenders all over the pitch. It was 4-0 when a wonderful passing move involving Ben B, James and Lucas saw the ball sweep into the path of Tom.He partly connected as the ball headed towards goal only for a cruel deflection to divert it past the heroic keeper. The next period saw the Hawks continue to battle and make life very difficult for the boys.Alex had been quiet for most of the game but he showed excellent concentration in diving at the feet of the Hawks striker to prevent the consolation goal. Some good wing play from Ben B,Lucas and Jack led to a number of near chances but it was only in the final minutes that Tom got on the scoresheet properly when he cleverly looped in a first time left foot shot to bring up the 5.Some experimentation today as the Lions rotated their positions.Well done boys.
