LIONS BARE THEIR TEETH IN MALDON SUN
Maldon Town Panthers u9s 1
Focus Ferrers Lions u9s 8
In support of the first floodlit grand prix the Lions kicked off at 2.15 in Maldon, and despite the late hour they treated their fans to a feast of goals for a second successive week.Back to full strength the boys had enjoyed a narrow 2-1 victory against their opponents in last seasons fixture and anticipated a close match. However the boys were on their game from the start and the marauding Callum was in on goal after just 3 mins after a slick combination from Jack and Tom.Three Lions corners followed with the Panthers goalkeeper under extreme pressure.James had taken up where he left off last week and was making some tremendous runs from the back which really opened up play.At the back Jamie "The Rock" was letting nothing past ,yet still showed the two footed distribution that brought him the most improved players award in last years "Leos".It was Lucas who got the score sheet moving with a great left footed finish from yet another corner.Within 5 mins he had struck again with the goal of the match as he swerved past the last defender and used his left foot once more. The midfield were really clicking and Jack was mixing mazy dribbles with effective passing. It became 3-0 after Lucas turned provider for the rampant Tom to fire home. After the break the Panthers started strongly and pulled a goal back when a strong low shot bobbled past a despairing Alex craving for the lush turf of the Emirates.Ben P had been working tirelessley throughout, and his efforts were rewarded as he restored the advantage just 30 secs later as he reacted first to a rebound. This seemed to hit the Panthers hard and the remainder of thr match saw the Lions put on something of an exhibtion.Ben B and Callum both traded thunderbolt shots that narrowly missed.Nathan began to bring the ball out of defence with pace and vision and the goals kept coming.Lucas completed the first ever left foot hat trick on 40 mins then 3 mins later grabbed his fourth.Ben B opened his seasons account on 48 after excellent work from Callum and Nathan then Tom scored his second and the Lions eighth with a minute left on the clock.A very good all round performance from the Lions, well done boys.
