HUNGRY LIONS EASE PAST HAWKS
Notley Youth Hawks u9s 0
Focus Ferrers Lions u9s 7The Lions and their loyal supporters gave up their sunday lunch for this fan friendly 1.15 opener in the league cup.In the absence of roast potatoes the boys turned to goals to ease the hunger pains in this rather one sided encounter. After just 2 minutes Lucas hit the Hawks post as the Lions set up camp in their opponents half. The hawks defence held strong for just 10 minutes before Ben P opened the scoring pouncing after Toms shot was parried. This settled the boys down and a better spell of passing followed with Jack and Callum at the heart of it.Nathan moved up from defence and fired in an ambitious long shot which the Hawks keeper dealt with. The match was effectively over in the next three minutes as Callum made it 2 with a fierce cross shot followed swiftly by a "dambuster" style shot from Jack which bundled in at the near post.Tom made it 4 with an emphatic finish after a great interception by the commanding Jamie. The half finished with the Hawks crossbar shaking after a Callum thunderbolt free kick from fully 20 yds.The second half saw Tom also meet the crossbar challenge as the plastic kept his volley out.James was keen to sample some action and he began powering up the park with some surging runs. His elusive first ever goal so nearly came when his powerful shot was somehow tipped over by the keeper.Alex had been starved of involvement in goal but turned supplier with a smart kick that put in Lucas to add the fifth.Nathan and Jack then swapped more chances before Tom swept in number 6 and 7 in the last few minutes to bring up his second successive hat trick. This was a game where individual skill was shown by all of the Lions well done boys.
