U11s Lions

Congratulations to the boys following their victory in the League Cup Final on the 26th April 2009 at Burnham Ramblers. A tremendous performance saw them win a hard fought encounter 2-1 over the Focus Ferrers Tigers. This rounded off another strong season for the boys in which they scored 68 goals for the second year running conceding just 12 as they finished in third place in the Dengie division. The season saw a continuation of the fine passing football which has become their trademark.

The team has now been together for 2 years following it's formation from the development squad. The team are encouraged to play an attractive attacking game, combining passing&movement with individual skills. Players are actively encouraged to try new things on the pitch without fear of failure. The outfield starting line up is rotated each week to ensure every squad member has a fair number of starts, no player starts on the subs bench 2 weeks running, and substititions are used during matches to ensure every player participates fully in each game.

This ensures each player is given an opportunity to develop their skills and experience in a match environment

Over their first 2 seasons the majority of the team have experienced playing in a number of different positions, and this will continue to be the case, so expect this next season to continue to produce some unexpected combinations on the pitch!!

The intention is that this approach will provide the basis for success in future years as the team progresses through the age groups, whilst the onus in the younger age groups remains on enjoyment and development, not results.

The squad is also pleased to welcome Andrew Hill for the forthcoming season (the first new addition to the team since its start), whilst saying farewell and good luck to Alex Dumas who has moved to other goalkeeping pastures.
