SPIRITED PERFORMANCE BY EAGLES
The Eagles played their 1st game for almost 8 weeks in the league cup at Danbury on a heavy pitch and put in a promising performance.
The boys battled hard throughout and but for 2 goals in the last 3-4 minutes would have got an even more credible result against a strong Danbury team who are one of the best teams in the league.
The Eagles began well and kept their disclipline with James and Thomas up and down the flanks working hard and Henry holding the centre midfield. Unfortunately a soft goal opened the scoring for Danbury when a deep corner into the Eagles box caused confusion and the unlucky Henry diverted the ball into his own net. The boys did not let their heads drop and put together some good moves going forward. Just the final ball or a wrong decision letting them down. Danbury added a 2nd but the Eagles hit back when a great reverse pass from Thomas from the left was threaded through to Ross on the edge of the box, who took one touch and blasted a powerful shot towards goal which the Danbury keeper could not hold and palmed down into the corner of the net.
Danbury left midfielder was causing the Eagles problems with his skill and the home side had some good attempts at goal which Aaron was equal too. The boys did clear their lines better than previously games and Harry and Liam were excellent with some good interceptions.
Danbury added a 3rd before HT to make it 3-1
2nd half kicking downhill the Eagles again played well. Henry having made way for 10 minutes for a well deserved breather came back on to make some good runs forward and set up the Eagles attacks. Michael came on on the right and was as always full of running.
The Eagles created 2 or 3 good chances with Henry Thomas and Ross all going close to what would have been a deserved 2nd.
A mention to Harvey who probably had his best game after coming on as sub and made some good tackles in defence. Well done
A 4th goal was added by Danbury mid way through the half and 2 late goals sealed the win that maybe flattered them at 6-1.The 5th goal was debatable as the home ref did not see whether the ball had gone over the line but the home parents called the goal and I must confess it did look over the line which myself and Neal confirmed. Maybe too honest but fair play has to be adhered to ! We should have done an Arsene Wenger that we didn't see it !
6-1 FT
The boys can be proud of their performance. Everybody put in a good display and there was no signs of the boys being rusty despite so long without playing. I would say this was one of the best team performances of the season. They are started to think about their positions and pass and move into space. We are in a very tough league but the boys are giving their best, so well done
MOTM was close this week between 3 candidates Harry, Thomas&Henry but Henry shaded it so well done to him. Almost a Scott Parker performance Henry! The score was 1-6.
