Match report

MALDON SAINTS   3   -   5   FOCUS FERRERS LIONS  U 7

Lions travelled to Maldon this week. After winning the toss, we kicked off uphill into very strong wind. This was going to be a very tough test for the boys. The dead lock was broken on 13 minutes when Daniel struck a very strong shot on target but one of the Saint players handled the ball giving away a penalty. Michael struck a great penalty to put the boys 1 – 0 up. It was end to end stuff and Saints pulled it back level on 18 minutes. On 19 minutes, Lions got a throw in deep in the Saint’s half. Joseph threw the ball to Daniel who passed it to Jack who then shot to the right of the keeper to put the lions 2 – 1 up. This is how the first half ended.

As the second half got under way the rain started to come down. Saints were putting the boys under a lot of pressure. Kai, Callum, Michael, Teddy, Aaron And Tommy were made to work very hard this half as saints kept attacking most of the half. On 33 minutes Alfie broke away again for the Lions and with a great solo effort he struck the ball firmly into the net to give the boys a 3  - 1 lead. However, on 35 minutes the Saints came back and got a great goal to make it 3 – 2. The Saints were really working the boys and were very unlucky not to be level. On 37 minutes Joseph struck a brilliant goal to take the pressure off the Lions - the score was now 4 – 2. We were still working very hard at the back but the Lions hit them on the break again. A great pass from Daniel to Alfie, who doesn’t miss from that range, made the Lions 5  - 2 in the lead. All the boys were now very wet and cold, and on the stroke of the final whistle Saints got another well deserved goal - final score was 5 – 3. This was a very tough test for the boys in not very nice weather and this game could have gone either way. Kai was the well deserved Man of the match.

Lions have now Won 7  Drawn  2  Lost   0

The score was 5-3.
