Match report

Having had a bye in the first round this was our first game in the League Cup. We visited Ravens Youth for a rematch following a harsh defeat at the start of the season. We travelled with a small squad but they really fought for each other and gained their reward at the full time whistle with a great victory.

So what was the story of the match - as in our previous match the Hawks generated a lot of the pressure in the first half but somehow the goals wouldn't go in. They got to half time and it was 0-0 and the boys knew that if they raised the game another level, they could take the match. The first 10 minutes of the 2nd half were tight again and then ... 7 goals in the final twenty minutes. Anthony scored on 40 minutes but no sooner were the celebrations over then the boys were getting the ball out of their own net. They lost concentration and Ravens Youth had scored the equalizer. Shortly afterwards however they took the lead again with this being the culmination of a skillful and battling move that involved Ellis, Charlie and Anthony. 10 minutes later Charlie and Harrison combined well with Harrison scoring. Two minutes afterwards the boys sealed the victory with a well taken goal from Charlie following a fantastic clearance kick by Rob the goalie. This seemed to galvanise the opposition however and with 2 minutes to go, plus stoppage time, Ravens Youth threw the kitchen sink at the Hawks and pulled the score back to 4-3.

They ran out of time but in fairness the Hawks ran out the worthy winners having also hit the post twice during the match. This was a fine display from the boys with everyone playing well on a day of pretty horrible weather. Man of the Match was Ellis Chennells.  The score was 4-3.
