Match report

FOCUS FERRERS U14 HAWKS - 6    BARNSTON YOUTH U14 - 1

This was Focus Ferrers Hawks first League Cup match of the season and they were determined to get another win after last weeks League victory. Their confidence was bolstered further when Barnston Youth turned up with only nine players. The smile was soon wiped off the Hawk's faces when Barnston showed grit from the start, and after a few early chances on both sides it was only a great save by Tony, nudging the ball over the crossbar, that Barnston didn't take an early lead. It wasn't until the 31st minute when Anthony finally breached the Barnston defence to make it 1-0 at half time. In the second half James nearly scored from a well taken header before Aron did with a fine goal to make it 2-0. Barnston continued fighting and almost immediately got one back to make it 2-1. The Hawks then opened the floodgates, with a second from Anthony followed by goals from Harry, Dan H, and Ellis. Anthony almost scored a hatrick following a goal side scramble but it was just cleared. With a Barnston player picking up an injury with just two minutes to go before the final whistle, the referee had no option but to abandon the match. This meant the final score remained 6-1. Dan W was awarded man of the match, which was well deserved as on a number of occasions he was the last line of defence and thwarted Barnston’s Attacks.

The score was 6-1.
